European Culture Prize

On September 24th Camilla Nylund was awarded the European Culture Prize TAURUS in the category of Music. The award ceremony, which visits a different European city each year, was held at the Tonhalle Zürich – with the Tonhalle-Orchester acting as both host and one of 11 nominees for the evening.

Camilla was introduced and honoured in a speech by Matthias Schulz, intendant of the Berlin State Opera, who spoke of her as a hard-working, dedicated artist and a charming person to work with. Her own speech, upon accepting the award, reflected in a clever and humorous manner on the oddities of being an opera singer. “I am a songbird,” she concluded, “So I will now sing for you.”

What followed was an interpretation of Richard Strauss’s “Morgen” with the Tonhalle-Orchester under the baton of Paavo Järvi.

Congratulations to Camilla and all other awardees!
