Schönberg’s “Erwartung” to premiere at the Frankfurt Opera

Starting the new year: Schönberg’s “Erwartung” to premiere at the Frankfurt Opera

On January 16th a rare piece of music will premiere at the Frankfurt Opera – and with it comes a debut for Camilla.
“Erwartung” by Arnold Schönberg (libretto by Marie Pappenheim) is a one-act monodrama for solo soprano. It tells the story of lone a woman, who roams the night in search of her lover – tortured by jealousy, fear and vengeance as the psychological aspects of the piece unfold over the span of four scenes. “The Woman”, as the role is referred to, is one of the more difficult pieces to acquire in a repertoire. Not only due to Schönberg’s contemporary style of composing, but the intricate interpretation of the character itself.

Performance dates for the production in Frankfurt – which will include a selection of works by Arnold Schönberg and Frank Martin, collectively titled “Warten auf Heute” (“Waiting for today”) – are spread across January and February 2022. Most are already sold out.
Dates: January 16th, 20th, 23rd, 28th, 30th / February 2nd, 5th
