On January 21st 2024, Camilla Nylund returned to Dresden’s Semperoper to reprise the role of Isolde for the first time since 2022.
The production by Marco Arturo Marelli, which originally premiered in 1995 and was renewed for the 23/24 season, held an impressive cast fronted by, among others, conductor Christian Thielemann, as well as Klaus Florian Vogt in his debut as Tristan.
Camilla was last seen and heard in a full production run of “Tristan und Isolde” at the Zürich Opera House during her debut of the role in June 2022 and a stand-in performance at Teatro di San Carlo that same year.
Critics said about the Dresden performances:
“Ihre Rollenwahl passt hervorragend zur dramatischen Entwicklung ihrer leuchtenden Sopranstimme. Es war dabei ihre überaus versierte und vorbildliche Gesangstechnik, mit welcher sie die Gesangslinien ihrer Partie sicher und einwandfrei phrasierte, dabei ihre Spitzentöne in der Höhe gleichförmig abrundete und mit welcher sie sich die Isolde sich ganz zu eigen machte.“ Alexandra Richter, Bachtrack.

“Der dritte Akt klingt so frisch, als sei es der erste, ohne dass Nylund sich vorher hörbar schont. Von Anfang bis Ende singt sie voll aus, meistens fein melodisch, aber auch kraftvoll, wenn nötig. […] Auch darstellerisch weiß Nylund zu überzeugen: Die nervöse, verbissene Isolde im ersten Akt nimmt man ihr genauso ab wie die fast kindliche, träumerische Verliebte im zweiten und die erhabene Liebesgöttin im dritten Akt.“ Adele Bernhard, Das Opernmagazin.
